How do I get an Alien Registration Card (ARC) in Korea?

Legal Obligation

  • Foreign nationals must carry a passport or Alien Registration Card at all times (exempt for those under 17).
  • Immigration officers may request these documents during official duties. Failure to comply may result in penalties under Article 27 of the Immigration Act.

Alien Registration Eligibility

  • Foreign nationals must register for an Alien Registration Card within 90 days of entry if:
    • Staying in South Korea for over 90 days.
    • Former South Korean nationals who obtained foreign citizenship or foreign nationals born in South Korea staying for over 90 days.

Alien Registration Process

  • Personal visit required. Bring:
    • Passport
    • Application Form (Form No. 34)
    • 1 color photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm)
    • Fee (30,000 KRW)
    • Proof of residence (e.g., lease, accommodation confirmation)
